Johannes Triebs, PEM / Aachen University presents about Plastic Based AM Technologies

Johannes Triebs, Groupleader Plastic Components for E-Mobility, Leader Competence Field AM-Technologies, presents: “Plastic Based Additive Manufacturing Technologies: the StreetScooter Case”.

In close collaboration with the company StreetScooter PEM Aachen University supports the development of an innovative compact car, the StreetScooter C16. As a first step a prototype was built using the PolyJet 3D printer Stratasys Objet1000 for all external parts. This 3D-printer is the largest polyjet printer that is available on the market. The prototype car was displayed on the Stratasys booth at Euromold November 2014. 3D printed parts of the prototypic car include lamp masks, doors, front spoiler, sills, wheel arches, main parts of the info panel and the car’s logo. Next to Rapid Prototyping solutions also Rapid Tooling applications will be presented.

For his PhD he worked at the Chair of Machine Tools of Prof. Brecher at WZL Aachen University from 2009 to 2013. During his PhD he focused on energy efficiency of machine tools. Since 2014 he is responsible for plastic components for e-mobility solutions and AM-Technologies at the new Chair of Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components (PEM) Aachen University.
